Apps to Map Severe Weather Season

As we spring into Severe Weather Awareness Week through Friday in Nebraska and Iowa, there are numerous ways to track turbulent weather on a smartphone.

Lukas Partners client UScellular suggests the free Apple Weather, Carrot Weather, 1Weather, The Weather Channel and Weather Underground Apple and Google Play apps for smartphones.

“According to a recent survey we conducted, 52% of respondents utilize a weather app at least once a day,” said Monique Moore, UScellular’s director of sales and operations for Nebraska and central Iowa. “Smartphones can provide vital information when weather conditions shift from sunny to stormy.”

Here are additional severe weather safety tips from UScellular:

-- The Ready.gov website encourages families to develop and practice an emergency plan.

-- Social media sites have become a preferred way to quickly gather and share information, especially during severe weather and natural disasters.

-- If phone service becomes impacted because of a storm or high call volume, text messages could still be sent and received because they require less network bandwidth than calls.
