About Wounded Warriors Family Support

Client overview and media results for Mobility is Freedom PR campaign for Wounded Warriors Family Support

Wounded Warriors Family Support (WWFS) is an Omaha-based nonprofit dedicated to serving wounded veterans and their families. The organization’s Mobility is Freedom program provides modified vehicles and motorcycles for combat-wounded veterans, which helps them regain independence for a higher quality of life.

The Challenge

In 2022, Wounded Warriors Family Support honored eight combat-wounded veterans with mobility-equipped vehicles. WWFS wanted to raise awareness for the Mobility is Freedom program, highlight the impact of these vehicle donations and inspire donor support. The PR challenge was how to reach the right audience — both locally and nationally — in a meaningful way.

The Big Idea

By using compelling personal stories of veterans who received mobility-equipped vehicles, we simultaneously amplified veterans’ experiences to generate local and national awareness for WWFS and the Mobility is Freedom program. These stories showcased the impact the vehicles had on veterans.

Our Approach

Here is how we spread the word about WWFS and the Mobility is Freedom program.

Provided Event Support

Lukas Partners assisted WWFS with vehicle and motorcycle donation events in California, Georgia, Louisiana, New York and Virginia. We coordinated motorcycle and vehicle donations to occur with high-profile events in major media markets that included the Combat Hero Bike Build Presentation in Ontario, California, and Fleet Week New York 2022 at the Intrepid Museum in New York City.

Developed a Comprehensive Media Strategy

We partnered with the WWFS program outreach coordinator to gather background information about each veteran who was honored with a custom motorcycle or vehicle with adaptive equipment. Then, we crafted media alerts and news releases to detail each veteran’s brave recovery journey and emphasize how the customized vehicle would help enhance the veterans’ quality of life and provide them with independence.

Secured Multi-Channel Media Coverage

Our PR experts targeted local, national and military publications with tailored media pitches. With each news release, we included a photo of a combat-wounded veteran with his or her new vehicle or motorcycle to make the story stronger and more memorable. In addition to coverage in online and print publications, we also secured radio and TV spots and used social media posts to amplify reach.

The Results

Our team strengthened Wounded Warriors Family Support’s reputation as a leader in veterans’ mobility, independence and quality of life.
