AIM Institute's Virtual Courses Help People Access New Tech Skills, Career Opportunities

The AIM Institute, an innovative nonprofit that grows, connects and inspires Omaha’s tech community, delivers a broad array of virtual courses and conferences to bring tech education to youth, career-changers, tech professionals and those who lost jobs due to the pandemic. Tony Veland, director of Community Engagement for AIM, says the nonprofit has increased its curriculum and the ability to access it online to help people develop valuable new skills because careers in technology can be a reliable source of employment.

The Nebraska Tech Collaborative identified the need to add 10,000 tech workers in Nebraska by 2025. The AIM Institute is committed to filling the tech talent pipeline for the region. “Tech is a great place to be because of the opportunities,” Veland said. “The tech sector is where you will find what are called ‘H3 jobs’ —high-wage, high-demand, high-skill jobs. Getting into these types of positions can change the trajectory of an individual’s life.”

AIM’s virtual offerings include the following:

Tech Navigator Service helps people find the tech career of their dreams. A Tech Career Coach provides mentoring and support to create a custom career or education plan.

AIM Code School provides accelerated programs that train people with no prior coding experience to become junior-level developers in as little as 14 weeks. Newsweek recently named AIM Code School one of the top online code schools of 2020. A variety of course offerings are currently available.

Heartland Developers Conference will be held virtually on Sept. 24; it’s the region’s longest-running software design and development event.

The Infotec Conference, set for Nov. 13, is Silicon Prairie’s premier annual gathering for business tech professionals. Paul Jarrett, co-founder and CEO of Bulu, will be a featured keynote speaker.

Lukas Partners Wins National PRSA Award

Lukas Partners recently earned a national Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) award. We teamed with Laughlin Constable of Milwaukee to claim a 2020 Bronze Anvil Award in the Media Relations-Consumer Services category for our client U.S. Cellular for its Rolling Out the Future of Wireless campaign.

For U.S. Cellular, the country’s fourth-largest full-service wireless carrier, providing reliable service is critical. In 2019, U.S. Cellular was among the first wireless carriers to announce plans to expand its network to include 5G – the future of wireless.

This new network rolled out in early 2020 in the key markets of Iowa and Wisconsin to bring 5G to locations where other carriers had not invested. In addition, U.S. Cellular recently announced it will activate 5G in additional select areas in 11 states including California, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia.

The company is building a portfolio of 5G smartphones, connected devices and IoT solutions that currently includes the Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphones, the LG V60 ThinQ 5G and the recently announced Samsung Galaxy A71 5G. The company has established a variety of relationships with equipment and software vendors who are playing an important part in the modernization and deployment of the company’s 5G network. Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung are helping lay the groundwork for U.S. Cellular to provide additional product and service enhancements supporting 5G mmWave spectrum and 5G New Radio (NR) technology.

We also had the opportunity to leverage U.S. Cellular’s annual Business Tech Tour that featured Robert Herjavec of ABC’s “Shark Tank,” who discussed the impact of technology and 5G on innovation.

For more than 45 years, PRSA’s Bronze Anvil Awards have recognized the best in public relations. Lukas Partners also was proud to earn 39 Paper Anvil Awards in January 2020 from PRSA Nebraska for communication initiatives on behalf of our clients who are committed to positively impacting the audiences they serve.
